What's the deal with that big painting behind them.
its "The Sun" by Edvard Munch,. (you know his famous painting "the scream" probably) Well Edvard Munch made all the paintings in the big Aula of the Oslo university. Its really nice and classy (and is still there as it is)
Perfect.
My favorite rendition of round midnight.
😊
Driving down Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh. Late ‘90s…
Man, you never know how Monk's going to play this. Exceptional and original every time.
I’m taking a music class in college right now and tell me why my teacher is putting me on these songs bc this has me feeling like i’m walking on a rainy night in a city 🧍🏼♀️

This articulates in pure form the beauty of all of Charlie Parkers phrases. Slow sweet and audacious.
Supreme!
Song mentioned by Ian McEwan in his novel Lessons. Never listened to it before. Great piece!!
best adaptation of a jazz standard I've even heard.
Joey badass
There are tons and tons of really fantastic keyboard players, but there is only one Monk. His style is so distinct you can hear about two chords and you immediately know it's him. Genius wouldn't be appropriate in his case. Need to go a couple steps higher.
❤ j aime
I bought this L.P. of Th. Monk in the USA in 1966 and I loved it and I did not even like jazz. (Netherlands)
Beat is crazy
What a class
Why is this crap my mom said I’m him and u guys like bad stuff
This song dookie
It's 2024 and it's a boppin' ❤
Amazing! I bought this double LP with Oscar Peterson the other side. I prefer this as Teddy swings in the same vein as Pres, using minimalism to comp and taking a pleasant ride when called upon. Exquisite!
Monk is a musicians musician , simply next level..
I've been a fool , this is absolutely chilling, I'd somehow thought that the tune, was 'cool' , but instead its much more in Mach the Knife territory. Something awful is happening , Monk's piano. And Rouse's Tenor seems to be indicating that no one cared enough to stop it, because what do you expect 'round midnight. As Milton has Comus, in the play of the same name, say "What hath night to do with sleep? Night hath better sweets to prove, Venus now wakes, and wak'ns Love."
The Best!
Was this in a Better Call Saul episode?
I never quite found out the harmonics of the 🎹 Yes I am a pianist 😮

Greatest freestyle track IMO
Beboppers. Mad research scientists. Easily bored, restless, driven to externalize the strange artful beautiful ideas inside their heads. Decades later their amazing experiments still set my imagination afire and stick to my ribs.
I like jazz but have zero idea why this is a masterpiece. Oh well
